Childcare leave for parents of seriously ill or injured children

As of July 1, 2021, parents of seriously ill children will be able to take up to 14 weeks of childcare leave.

The change in the law, which will come into effect on July 1, 2021, is intended to support working parents who care for sick children.

Parents of children who are seriously ill or whose health has been seriously impaired following an accident are to be entitled to 14 weeks of caregiver leave. Parents are free to divide these days among themselves. The leave can be taken by the day or at a stretch within 18 months.

The childcare leave will be financed by the income replacement scheme (EO), whose contribution rate does not have to be increased for this reason.
