Withdrawal of funds from pension plans should not be taxed at a higher rate

The Swiss Parliament has rejected the planned increase in taxation on withdrawal of funds from private and occupational pension plans as part of the Relief Package 27 (“EP27”).

Following the Council of States’ vote in December 2025, the National Council also voted against the proposal on March 5, 2026. This means the planned increase in direct federal income tax – which would have significantly steepened the tax progression to up to 11.5% – is off the table.
